This experience will bring us closer to one of the icons of Basque gastronomy: Txakoli, whose origin dates back to 1520 in the area of the Basque Country. We cannot forget the Bombing of Gernika. A walk through the network of its air-raid shelters will reveal the ingenuity of human beings to fight for their survival. We will end up visiting the Casa de Juntas and the Tree of Gernika, which for centuries the meeting place of the towns of Bizkaia.
09: 30h Pick up at the accommodations. We will start the day at Bodegas de Txakoli, which belongs to the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve. The restless and innovative spirit of his team has originated a new concept for Txakoli from respect for the Natural Environment. The new building that houses it represents the ground from which it emerges, thought to be a living building that evolves naturally over the years.
We will continue with the Route of the Air Raid Shelters that will take us just 4 days after the military uprising that occurred on July 22, 1936. The first bombardment on Basque soil took place on this day, in Otxandio, a town located south of Gernika. This led to the Basque Government organizing a network of air raid shelters in the Basque towns. In the afternoon, we will visit the Casa de Juntas and the Tree of Gernika that are presented to us as living symbols of the history of the Basque People.
18: 30h Approximate time of return.
