ARALAR PASTOR NATURAL PARK FOR A DAY

We offer you the possibility of knowing the life of the Aralar shepherds. Leaving from Larraitz we will hike for about two hours until we reach the “shack” of the pastor. There we will know their way of life and the environment in which they live. We will spend an unforgettable day feeling like shepherds for a day.
The interior of Gipuzkoa is a territory traditionally linked to grazing and the cradle of Idiazabal cheese, one of the most internationally renowned Basque gastronomic products. Protected with a designation of origin, our shepherds have known how to preserve, over time, the artisan tradition of making cheese and the essence of their trade.
09:30 AM Pick up at hotels and departure to Larraitz. We will hike for about two hours until we reach the “shack” of the pastor. We will follow the trail of the authentic Cheese with Denomination of Origin Idiazabal. From its natural
beginning to its delicious end. We will meet the flocks of sheep on their pilgrimage through the Basque fields, and the shepherds will open the doors of their farmhouses for us to discover the making of cheese.
To learn more about the way of life of the shepherds, we propose a plan that you will hardly be able to reject. We will go up walking for about two hours, accompanied by a guide, to one of the huts or cabins that the shepherds have in the mountains of the Aralar Natural Park. From June to September the shepherds lead their flocks to the meadows of these mountains. You will enjoy nature in its purest form and wonderful views while you share a pleasant time with a shepherd.
